My Reborn Journey

I stumbled upon reborning completely by accident. My daughter wanted an ethnic baby but she wanted one that looked like her for Xmas. None of the AA babies in the stores looked like her. All the babies I found were either ugly or not the right complexion. So I decided to do a search on eBay & found "reborned" babies. I was absolutely blown away!! These babies looked JUST LIKE REAL babies. The details all the way down to veining & creases made me do a double take on whether the babies were actually real or a doll. Needless to say they were quite expensive! lol I couldn't quite afford to purchase one of these babies for Amiah, especially since she's so young, so I decided to make try and make one of my own! I told myself..if THEY can do it..then I can too.

I started doing research & stumbled upon bountiful baby. I joined their forum & met all sorts of nice people & received so much great advice. Then..I saw an auction for "sasha malia"...a baby that had been made in honor of our (at the time) President Elect Obama's daughters Sasha & Malia. I was so touched & overwhelmed by that baby. I tried my best to win her but apparently others were just as touched & intrigued as I was. I'm ashamed to say I actually cried when someone else adopted her!! She had an emotional hold on me. I don't know if it was because of the history that had been made that night or if it was the baby, but I knew right then & there that I HAD to jump in (mistakes & all) & try to create a reborn.

I checked out Kay's website (The Artist behind Sasha Malia) at http://precioustreasuresnursery.webs.com/index.html & saw that she was full of information & very happy to answer any questions. Her blog was hilarious as well as informative. I came back to this site every single day. Just to see if any new babies were in the nursery or if there were any new tips on making these babies. "Aniyah" (my very first baby) took me WEEKS to complete & she has PLENTY of mistakes & really wasn't that cute, but I was so proud of her & loved her anyway!! And so does Amiah! She's still my favorite til this day!

Hope this gave some insight into how I became a reborn artist...
